Carlisle Canoe Club at a Glance
A Bit of Background
Carlisle Canoe Club was formed in 1959 with the objective of introducing people to and sharing the pleasures of paddle sport. We are a large, family friendly recreational canoe Club, based next to the beautiful river Eden in Carlisle. Our mission is to encourage as many people as possible to safely enjoy the pleasure of paddling. Our commitment to equality and access, means that anyone over the age of 10 and able swim 50 meters is welcome. We are fully committed to the principles of equality of opportunity and aim to ensure that everyone has a genuine and equal opportunity to participate in Paddle sport at all levels and in all roles within the sport.
We are well placed to take advantage of the rivers and lakes of Cumbria and South West Scotland and although white water kayak and canoe focused, the Club maintains equipment and expertise to allow Club members to enjoy other paddlesport activities and maintains a program of activity throughout the year.
The Clubs affiliation to British Canoeing and links to other organisations provides access to further paddlesport experiences for members.

Activities
Our members participate in white water river running, lake trips, surfing, play boating, Canadian canoeing, slalom and sea paddling. Throughout the past years members have: White-water kayaked in the French Alps, Austria, Italy, the Lakes (Eden, Esk, Greta, Gelt, Caldew, Liddle, Lowther, Lune, Leven, Kent plus more…), Scotland (Etive, Orchy, Roy, Spean, Tay, Morriston, Gary plus more) and in Wales. Open canoe and sea kayaked on Ullswater, Derwent Water and other Northern Lakes as well as The Great Glen. Sea kayaked around the Farne Islands, Skye, Raasay and Rona, Summer Isles, Colonsay and much much more. We have provided safety cover for many open water swimming events. In the winter members practice and are taught to roll in a nice warm swimming pool.
